What to do... what to do...

So many plans to celebrate today but only one Clifford.

Here are the options in no particular order.

a) go to my Uncle's house and have dinner with the family and be on the OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD (peoria).

b) go out with the Ukazu crew with a 6-pack of beer.

c) hang out in tempe with the Zachster.

d) scottsdale's block party.

e) geek out on the computer at home

f) do some home improvement mumbo jumbo.

Hrmmmmmm...

While I was posting this... I was curious to see if scottsdaleblockparty.com was taken... IT'S AVAILABLE!! woo hoo...

{ 5 minutes later }

I own Scottsdaleblockparty.com and Tempeblockparty.com

:)

I win!

Ok, I guess option 'e' is done.

Now what do I do tonight?

I finally have been able to scrounge up some time to update my blog and to throw up some photos that have been on my camera. First off, I'm just going to comment on how crazy it is to take your dog to Santa to have a photo taken with Jolly St. Nicholas. Here's a photo of all kinds of people lining up and paying money to have their dog photographed with the rotund gift giver.

Tonight we celebrated my Uncle Arnold's 80th Birthday in an AIRPLANE HANGAR!! You can check out photos here.

Afterwards, I went to hang out with some old friends from h.s. Here are those photos.

Ok kids... I'm super sleepy and tomorrow I'm having breakfast with Zach and Brett over at Harlows. Time for breakfast: 8:30am.

So I'm here at the Apple store and my cousin Amber is getting a new Powerbook G4!! To get a discount on the laptop, we had to prove that her mom, Aunt Wendy is a principal, we had to hop online to check out her page.

To help you all who don't know the history of the 'white elphant' gifts... here is a nice explanation:

White (albino) elephants were regarded as holy in ancient times in Thailand and other Asian countries. To keep a white elephant was a very expensive task, since you had to provide the elephant with special food, and provide access for people who wanted to come and worship it. If a Thai King became, for some reason, dissatisfied with a sub-king, he would give him a white elephant. The gift would, in most cases, ruin the recipient.

So I was thinking the other day... (don't pretend to be surprised). I was thinking about how the computer age has affected us in the past few years and I remembered when I was a little kid writing with crayons.

My mom and dad would try to put the crayon into my right hand to write because that was the 'proper' thing to do yet it was so much easier to write with my left hand.

During grade school I understood the differences of being left handed and how it would affect me. I always had smudges on my left palm because the graphite from the pencils would rub off. It was more difficult to write when I sat in those 'old school' desks with built in arm rests for right handed kids and the scissors I'd have to use when working on some lame arts and crafts project would have to be handled precariously with my right hand (needless to say, I was always cutting crooked).

Well, fast forward to the digital age. Now we use computers, keyboards, and mice. The mouse has always, to the best of my memory, been on the right side of the keyboard. This leaves the keyboard to the left hand.

How could this be? How could the first users of the keyboard/mouse combo put the mouse on the wrong side of the keyboard?

I did some research on Google.com and found estimates that range anywhere between 13-30 percent of the population is left-handed. This means that 70-77 percent of the population really isn't using the keyboard/mouse combo as efficiently as possible. I mean really, how much dexterity do you need to navigate a mouse around a screen?

But then I began to think a little more. The left side of the body is controlled with the right side of the brain and vice versa. This is a known fact with the human anatomy. Not only do the 'controls' for the body cross sides, each side of the brain has a specific set of characteristics!

Left Brain Characteristics:
- Logical
- Sequential
- Rational
- Analytical
- Objective
- Looks at parts

Right Brain Characteristics:
- Random
- Intuitive
- Holistic
- Synthesizing
- Subjective
- Looks at wholes

After reviewing the lists above, would you say that you need to be more logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective, and detail oriented to operate a mouse more efficiently? Conversely, would you really need to be more random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing, subjective, and have a better grasp of the whole to navigate around the keyboard better? Is there a correlation at all?

There's even been a study on this in Maine. Click here to check out their report.
