So I found the e-mail address of a someone I used to know a long time ago and I sent them an e-mail. A couple of hours later, I recieved a long distance phone call pretty late at night. The person let it ring twice and then hung up. I *think* I know who it was because it was from out of state and not too many people know my cell who are out of state and so I called it back and got a quick greeting message that just said to leave a message but I think I recognized the voice even though it's been 5 years since I've heard it.

Big trucks
Driving a big truck is definitely fun. I feel obligated to listen to zome country music and haul stuff around. I now understand why people feel more rugged when they drive a truck.

So a couple of days ago I wrote on here about how there is so much construction going on in Asia and how the funding for those projects may be purely from private parties as opposed to the government.
Even the private sector can donate. PepsiCo donated, CitiGroup donated, and Go Daddy donated.

Aid to countries hit by the tsunami.
So today I heard on the radio that a UN representative called the United States "stingy" and it disturbed me.
The US originally pledged $15 million to help those countries in need and the total amount of financial aid has risen to $35 million. Quite understandably, the US is known as a 'rich' country and having that reputation can often fuel comments like what the UN rep had to say but has everyone forgotten that China is sucking up close to 75 percent of the world's steel and concrete? Those resources don't come cheap and construction companies in the US can't even afford the higher prices that these resources have reached because they know they can't recoup those higher costs in the end when they're done with their projects. Now, it may very well be that these builders in China are scooping up all of these building materials with private funds but that significant amount of cash flow doesn't happen in a poor country.
With that in mind, I'd be interested in seeing how much money China will be kicking over to their neighbors down south who are still reeling from the damages of the tsunami.

Well, when I was up in Northern California in 2001, I rented a room out of a house from a woman named Gina Wong. We got along just fine and there was nothing romantic between us since she was somewhat intellectually aloof and pretended like she was a little school girl even though she was 42. For some guys out there, that's exactly what they're looking for but not me... Well, other than all that, she wasn't really attractive either but I digress. So we shared the same last name and although I only rented a room for a few months, I somehow got associated with her in some public record. And the reason I suspect that is because...

This is what I will do when I'm a millionaire.
DENVER - Residents of Samaritan House didn't know what to expect when the bearded, middle-aged man parked his sport utility vehicle in front of the downtown homeless shelter Christmas Eve.
The man walked into the building, pulled out a thick roll of $100 bills and began passing them out to each of the approximately 300 residents.
When he was finished, he had given out $35,000.
"It was like seeing Santa Claus and God all at once," said William Chengelis, who has lived at the shelter since November. "You hear about stuff like that but you don't think you'll be there when it happens."
As a crowd gathered, the man said he had once been homeless and knew what it was like to be in need. He did not identify himself and said only that he lived in Denver and had also distributed money at a Las Vegas shelter.
Possibly the man's biggest single donation was $5,000 to a family of six to find housing. Louis Quezada, Tessa Wittner and their four children had been living with Quezada's parents but were thrown out after an argument. They had been in the shelter several days.
"He asked if he gave us the money, would we get a house with it," said Quezada, 23. "We said yes."

If you're Asian and you can't process alcohol well... don't take Nyquil during the day. I just took a couple of swigs at 5:30 and actually fell asleep sitting at the dinner table with my friend Mark. I woke up and went into my car to sleep for another 30 minutes and then just drove home...

Somebody rear ended me today... I don't know if I will have serious long term effects but I do have whiplash and it seems complicated because I was turning my head to see if any cars were coming when I got hit.

I am so pissed off right now, it's not even funny. These repairs will literally cost $4,000 to fix and this guy's insurance had better not give me a hard time.

Big Shark.

Did you all see this? This Mako was hooked in the mouth, only fought slightly for 15 minutes, came up along side of the boat to have a look, long enough for one of the crew to put a rope around its tail !!!
That's when the s**t hit the fan!!
The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS. The boat was taking on water, the Shark would jump completely out of the water at times.
This went on for an hour before the Shark actually drowned.
He weighed in at 1035 LBS

Hung out with Tim again and we discovered a new hang out. Armadillo Grill on Camelback. Decent setting, good food, cute waitresses, close to the freeway and the Biltmore with a lively late night crowd makes for a good hangout on Camelback.
Tonight I rekindled my interest in getting into residential real estate. I'm too friendly of a guy to be stuck behind a computer for the rest of my life.

So the screen that I have chosen to use isn't going to be a traditional 15'' display. My overhead projector sits too far back and would make the image too large. I know- when you're talking about a TV- there is no such thing as 'too large' however if the image is going to be 15 feet diagonal, you might get a little sick looking at it if you're only sitting 12 feet away.
So I'm choosing a 7.5" wide and 5" tall screen that still produces images at 1024x768 but smaaaaaaaaller...
Well, it still looks huge on the wall and it actually is at just under 100" when measured diagonally. If we measured the screen size to seats ratio of this set up and compared it to a movie theater... hahaha- Harkins, eat your heart out!

So Saturday turned out to be a really interesting day. Woke up way late because I wasn't feeling too great and I went to sleep way late (4am). I totally missed a meeting I was supposed to be in at ASU. (sorry fellas)
I ran some errands, tooled around with my old laptop with a bad screen and basically destroyed the screen.
The machine part still works but eh- at least I know how to mess around with laptops now. After all that stuff I went out to a party with my mom to a holiday party her friend was hosting. After the party I went home and tooled around the house with my new LCD panel that I picked up off of ebay for my 'diy big screen tv projector' project.
Basic goal: rip an LCD panel out of its housing and put it on top of an overhead projector.
Result: big screen TV

Tonight has got to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year.
Here's a list of things I planned on doing:
1) 4pm- Get garage spring fixed since it snapped last night. (pic)
2) 6pm- Attend Ritchies birthday party at Oregano's in Tempe (although I'm not a fan of the place, I would have gone anyways and was planning on the garage door being fixed by 5:30pm).
3) 8pm- Attend meeting to help a group of students at ASU win a grant to start a business.
4) 6-9pm- Sometime in this area, stop by Jamba Juice to take advantage of a free drink. (just print off this coupon)
Here is a timeline of how things went to crap:
3pm - Someone needed my cell phone at work to configure someone else's new phone.
4pm - Arrived home ready to welcome the garage door fix it man without my cell phone (they were going to bring it to my house later).
6pm - Fix it man still wasn't here. I call them up and they admit they dropped the ball and we set up a time for tomorrow at 5pm.
8pm - Cell phone finally arrives at my house and I find out that the meeting has been cancelled. The birthday party in Tempe is also over.
8:30pm - Call up garage door people and tell them that my meeting has been cancelled and see if they can come tonight since they owe me some serious customer service. They say they'll call back to see if they can. I ponder the thought of a "Jamba Juice run but I decide to stay home to wait for the call.
9:30pm - No phone call from the garage people... bastards.
End of the night review: no jamba juice, no meeting, no fixed garage door, no birthday party, and I missed 3 calls while my cell phone was being borrowed.
So far, Christmas season isn't looking too merry.
